Eat Stop Eat is not really a diet plan. It is more a way of eating, using 1-2 fasts per week. This way of eating is called intermittent fasting and has been proven with research and empirical studies a way of rapidly dropping body fat.

Brad Pilon who is the author of this revolutionary book, explains that your metabolism will not slow
down from intermittent fasting and you will not lose muscle. Brad Pilon tested this way of eating at University and actually done a complete scientific study on this somewhat strange way of eating.

His research was aptly named
"The Metabolic Effects of Short Periods of Fasting in Humans and its Potential Application in Weight Loss".

Eat Stop Eat is basically an easy to read version of his findings from his $10,000 graduate education. He is definitely seeing a return on that investment.

Brad's findings were revolutionary. People didn't just lose weight, they lost fat, didn't lose any muscle mass and their metabolism improved despite this whole 6 meals a day increases your metabolism rubbish. That wasn't all, people who followed this way of eating, increased their HGH (Human Growth Hormone) production which is a fight or flight hormone which is known to promote fat burning and muscle building.

My First Impressions

After reading the main page of Eat Stop Eat, I was surprised at how quickly Brad adressed any pre misconceptions I may of had about the diet.

He first explains that every single diet plan to lose weight manipulates calorie restriction which is essential when wanting to lose weight. He mentions it doesn't matter how this is accomplished, whether using a low fat diet, low carb diet or any other diet you can think of, the main thing was burning more calories than you consume. Having said that, Brad didn't like the idea of having to stick with strict diet plans which people often get fed up of and quickly go back to their old eating habits and gain weight again.

He introduces the concept of intermittent fasting an an unstructured way to lose weight which allows you to eat your most favourite foods without all the obession involved with most diets. He warns people that his ideas are not mainstream or widely accepted and don't agree with current nutritional trends. I have to say his first few pages really sucked me in. I enjoy reading peoples work who think outside the box, whether that be innovators or pioneers, and Brad definitely pioneered this idea and hit a home run. After the introduction, he lets you know that he used to work for a major supplement company as the Head f Research and Development, but left in 2006. He went back to school to finish up his graduate education, and fast forward to the present..born was Eat Stop Eat.

The rest of the book explains what he found to be the most flexible and also most effective way to eat and stay lean all year round. He cites scientific study one after the other to prove his points and does a very good job in doing this.

Does Eat Stop Eat Work?

I am sure you must have seen testimonials on sales pages before, and it hard to gauge whether this is just pictures of their friends to manipulate you into thinking these are real testimonials. You may even think some photos could be photoshopped. So when I read the testimonials I took it with a pinch of salt, I opted to try it out myself as I love to use myself as a guinea pig as long as it is safe.

I can personally attest to its effectiveness. Within just a few days, I was dropping body fat without any modifications to my diet, just simply using intermittent fasting.

It allowed me to go out with family and friends and eat whatever my heart desired. I beleive in optimum health, so I don't abuse intermittent fasting by eating crap food, but with this way of eating, I didn't need to obsess over eating healthy all the time. Sometimes you find yourself on the road, and a good quality home cooked meal just isn't an option.

After a few months into intermittent fasting, I saw remarkable results. I let everyone I talk to know about it and they adopted the lifestyle and it is working great for them. By simply fasting 1-2 times per week, people were dropping fat fast by creating a calorie deficit and maximising HGH.

So the results are promosing. It will be interesting to see how this plays out after a full year of doing it as it is meant to be a long term diet solution which keeps you trim. Note: Brad has been eating this way for over 12 months and claims to be as lean as ever.

This is a video of a transformation I underwent in the summer of 2011. I used Visual Impact Muscle Buidling which I also done a review on here. In this workout book, Eat Stop Eat is recommended as a way to diet, so peep the results for yourself.

Who Is Eat Stop Eat For?

Anybody who has tried low calorie, low carb, low fat bland diets and found it difficult to lose weight should pay attention. There is nothing complicated or expensive which makes makes this diet plan highly unique.

This way of eating is best suited to people who want to enjoy life a bit while also seeing great weight loss. Brad Pilon is heavily against living an unbalanced strict lifestyle to reach weight loss goals. He beleives we only have one life and we should maximise our enjoyment while also staying lean and healthy.

For those who like unstructured realistic eating plans that fit around their personal lifestyle will do very well with Eat Stop Eat. Its a simple plan that is simply effective!

Negatives

No diet plan is perfect and I am not going to pretend Eat Stop Eat is. Eat Stop Eat isn't a crash diet, so don't expect to see rapid weight loss such as 5 lbs per week. There are diet plans that exist that can do this, however they sufer from the yo-yo effect.

It also takes quite a few tries to get used to fasting once or twice a week. Even though you go 24 hours without eating, you do still eat every single day. Typically you stop eating at 8pm say, go to bed, wake up and eat at 8pm that day. The first few tries may be a struggle, as your body is so used to regular meals and loves sugar. Once you adapt to it, you actually learn to enjoy the freedom of not thinking about food.

Ways I got around this were to increase my water intake, drinking black coffee and black tea and keeping myself busy. Most people aren't ever truly hungry, just bored.

You may not like this diet plan if you prefer detailed meal plans telling you exactly what and when to eat. This just isn't one of them type of diets. I beleive this flexibility is a good thing but there are people who enjoy structured rigid lifestyles.

Positives

The most positive aspect of this way of life is that it works. It worked for me, and worked for just about everyone who tries it. It works whether you need to lose 100s of lbs and works if you only need to lose the last 5lbs of stubborn fat to reveal your abs.

Before I read it, I knew that fasting gave you increased concentration as watching things like the Apprentice where they would have some breakfast and be too busy to eat for the rest of the day and just going throughout the day just working and getting everything accomplished. Having food in your belly slows you down as digestion is a strenous process, and I find on my fasting days I get the most done and I am very busy highly productive individual. Eat Stop Eat allows me to be this.

Another benefit is that it saves you money. I save a lot of cash eating this way, and lets face it people spend far too much money on food which ends up wasted. I saved more money on food in the first week than what Eat Stop Eat costs.

A strange one but it also makes your skin look better, and cleared up any acne I had. I don't know the exact reason but I guess its due to giving your body a proper chance to detox instead of always digesting food. I also noticed I don't even get colds anymore. Again, this is due to not constantly digesting food and my body able to focus on its immune system. My girlfriend is always ill and I never get sick from being around her. I do get sick of her though, just playing, hope she never reads this lol. You guys and even women will laugh at this one, but it has to be said. My erections are even more powerful now, especially in the morning. I sense this is due to high HGH levels and also increased testosterone. I would love to hear a females perspective on libido while doing this diet.

The flexibility is great. Sometimes I may not feel like fasting, and I can put it off for tomorrow or the next day whenever is conevenient. It doesn't matter what day of the week you do it and doesn't need a set pattern. I like to go out with friends on the weekend so I usually fast midweek when I want to get most work done.

Being able to go clubbing with my friends on a weekend, drinking alcohol and eating delicious food, it is refreshing to know that I can still take off my shirt the next day and have 6 pack abs. This diet makes it all possible.

Conclusion

Intermittent fasting is a term that is becoming more well known as people are grasping at just how powerful a weight loss and health tool this is.

If you think carefully, this way of eating is probably more in line with our hunter gatheror ancestors who didn't have an abundance of food at their disposal as us westerners do.
