This is of course a subjective subject. There isn’t technically a perfect male body with measurements as opinions differ. But an average opinion I reckon would result in an image such as below.
I do find it amusing how mainstream bodybuilders these days don’t resemble Eugen Sandow in the slightest.
They are way too oversized and require anabolic steroids to achieve that look. If you want that look I can’t help you. If you want a body similar to above then carry on reading.
Brad Pilon and John Barban came up with the adonis index which suggests some measurements. I go further by adding a few more.
Ideal Body Measurements For Men
Step 1- Find out your height and take 45% of this to determine your ideal waist.
Step 2- Using your ideal waist, multiply this by 1.618
These two measurements are the basis of the adonis index.
Other measurements to ensure great symmetry are neck size=arm size=calf size.
Your chest should be roughly 10-12″ greater than your waist.
Your thighs should look in proportion to your upper body. A thin pair of legs with a muscular upper body is a ridiculous look.
Here is an example for myself.
I am 6 foot 1/73″. Working in inches this gives me 73 x 0.45=33 to 1 decimal place.
33″ is my ideal waist, so we now so 33 x 1.618= 53″ to 1 dp.
Waist was 33 so chest circumference should be in the range of 43-45″.
How To Develop The Perfect Male Body
Developing the perfect male body will not be easy. It is a simple process when you know what you are doing however. You will not build this physique over night, but its definitely attainable within 3 months to 2 years depending on where you are starting from.
Step 1- The first step to constructing the perfect male body is to do some sort of resistance training. There are many resistance training methods out there. I happen to have constructed two that is great at getting results. To determine which one you should use check out the Somebody Lied Training Guide.
Step 2- Determine whether you need to lose fat to meet these measurements or gain muscle. Once you know this, I created a great diet guide which will help you calculate your calories and macronutrients.
Using this template will not only gain you superficial looking muscle, but it will make you a lot stronger and in conjunction with the diet will also improve your health.
A Little Story Before You Go
You see the guy in the picture Eugen Sandow, he didn’t just have the look of a Greek God, but he also had the strength. In a book I read of his, Eugen was touring in the USA.
At some sort of circus, there was to be a fight to the death between a bear and a lion. Authorities however didn’t allow this happen due to animal cruelty laws.
So guess who decided to step into the bears place instead.
Eugen Sandow LMAO.
To make the fight fair, the lion was to have its mouth muzzled and its claws covered. This was to be a fight of brute strength. Before the fight began in front of an audience, Eugen had a rehearsal with the lion.
The lion made a jump toward his direction and side stepped it. He then jumped on the lions back and tossed it. This carried on until the fight broke up.
On the day of the fight, the lion gazed into Eugen’s eyes and refused to fight. Eugen tried his hardest to get the lion to fight but it simply refused. Eugen had tamed this wild beast. In one last effort he pulled the giant cats tail and proceeded to lifting it and tossing it.
The crowd was on its feet.
I read this story when looking into some of Eugen Sandow’s training methods and thought I would share it with you guys. Hope you liked it.

In my opinion, the perfect male physique is one where any man, woman, or monkey will look at you and say “Damn that’s impressive.”
It’s really that plain and simple.
You want a body that turns heads. You want a body that produces double takes. You want a body that causes car accidents when you cross the street.

You’re not wrong mate

I really enjoyed that story at the end. What’s the point of being ripped if you’re not strong too?

Yeah I read the story in one of Eugen Sandow’s books, can’t remember which one but I remember just laughing as I read it.

Never even knew about that Sandow and the Lion story, lol. The formula you mentioned for finding your ideal body is great. Since it seems we are about height, then I can take the lazy way out and use your stats, lol!

from reading this you havent actually said what multiplying your waist by 1.618 by achieves. It just gives you a number but what does that mean?
mikemc007 October 19, 2012 at 7:35 pm
Sorry dude, at first I didn’t say what, but when I give an example on myself, I mention that it will be your chest circumference. So in theory for the adonis look, you want your chest circumference to be 1.618 x your ideal waist.
Actually November 5, 2012 at 7:54 pm
Multiply 1.618 x your ideal waist to find your Ideal Shoulders Circumference not chest.

yep that’s right, my mistake in the comments. Chest should be about 10-12″ bigger than waist

I need to add 1 to 3 inches to my chest and lose .5 inches on my waist to get there. I should be there by the end of November hopefully. I like the lion story. That guy is pretty awesome.

Eugen Sandow was the man. The whole package. The real deal. It’s a pity that the IFBB has desecrated his memory by associating him only with bodybuilding.
